What is the Modern Bed Skirt?

Bed skirts are a staple in bedding. While a subtle bedroom accessory, high- end bed skirts can have a surprisingly big impact on your bedroom decor. With lots of color options, bed skirts can match sheets or serve as a contrasting accent. Not only are they a finishing touch to a room, but they also hide box springs and create under-the-bed storage that can’t be seen by your guests. This is especially important in smaller spaces where you lack the ability to store everything in a garage or a closet. While bed skirts are a necessity for many when some people think of bed skirts they think of their grandmother’s house. She probably had a dust ruffle around each and every bed. These were very traditional bed skirts of the time. However, bed skirts have come a long way.

The Modern Bed Skirt

Instead of traditional styles of bed skirts that were made of a thin, ruffled fabric, the modern bed skirt has evolved. Our Simply On Bed Skirt is made of a thicker material to accommodate today’s larger mattresses and gives you more of a high-end feel. This modern bed skirt has ditched the ruffles and opted for a cleaner, crisper look with a flat fabric. This adds height to the bed, covers the frame, and still offers a hiding spot for storage. The best part of our Simply On Bed Skirts is that they clip around the bed, so there is no reason to strain yourself by trying to lift your mattress. This makes washing and reapplying easy.

Simply On Bed Skirt

Anyone looking for a modern bed skirt can’t go wrong with any of our Simply On Bed Skirts. Instead of traditional ruffles, the smooth microfiber (a form of polyester) skirt with pleats creates a streamlined look.

The hypoallergenic, machine-washable polyester material is dense and heavy; it also resists fading, stains, shrinkage, pilling, snagging, wrinkles, and dust mites. It has a 14-inch drop and is available in white, beige, and gray. This bed skirt is available for a twin, full, queen, and king sized bed.

No More Heavy Lifting

The Simply On Bed Skirt is different because it can easily be installed and removed by one person in seconds without lifting or straining. It is designed as one continuous piece of fabric that installs easily around the mattress. The Simply On Bed Skirt:

-Does not slip or sag in place

-Can be removed in seconds for cleaning

-Is machine-washable

-Conceals Box Springs

-Limits accumulation of dust under the bed

What fans love:

“I don’t know why someone didn’t think of this sooner! Best bed skirt ever. No lifting or moving the mattress, super easy to take on and off to clean, and the fabric and tailoring is great too. I highly recommend this product!”

“This product is a winner all the way around. Gives my room a modern look and allows me to wash it on my own without having to wait for my husband to get home and lift the mattress.”

Do I Need a Bed Skirt?

When strolling down the bedding aisle there can be an overwhelming feeling that sweeps across you as you are presented with countless options of accessories for the place you rest your head. One of the items you will always encounter in the bedding aisle are bed skirts. While some people look at bed skirts as optional, they are a necessity. In this article, we will explain what a bed skirt is, and why they are a necessary part of any bedding purchase.

What is a Bed Skirt?

A bed skirt looks similar to an oversized sheet and is layered between the mattress and box spring, extending all the way down to the floor. Bed skirts can serve both aesthetic and practical functions. While aesthetically it is a decorative piece of fabric it is also designed to prevent dust from accumulating under a bed. Also, it is used to cover a box spring and hide any storage underneath the bed.

Do I Need a Bed Skirt?

A bed skirt typically compliments a sheet set or comforter and acts as a decorative piece. If you own a traditional mattress and box spring set, your bed’s the ideal candidate for a bed skirt. A bed skirt complements or shares the color of your comforter to create a cohesive bed design. Traditionally, it lies between the mattress and box spring and cascades towards the floor. Although our Simply On Bed Skirts connects around the mattress for easy application. Without a bed skirt, your bedding will not cover your box spring and the legs of the frame.

Why Should I have a Bed Skirt?

Clean Look:

There is nothing worse than noticing all of the dust under a bed you are sleeping on. Having a bed skirt will help minimize the amount of dirt and dust that gets trapped underneath the bed. Also, one of the best reasons to get a bed skirt is that you can hide storage underneath the bed and behind the skirt. This will make your home look more organized and less cluttered.

Decoration:

A high-quality bed skirt creates a luxurious look to your room and adds the appearance of height to your bed. That is why at Simply On Bed Skirts we use a thick microfiber material. This material will hide any box springs or metal legs from the frame that is holding up the mattress.

Affordable:

Simply On Bed Skirts are an affordable addition to your bedding. Starting at $53 there is no reason not to invest in one.

Easy Maintenance:

The biggest difference with Simply On Bed Skirts is the ease of maintenance. With traditional bed skirts, you had to lift up the mattress in order to get the bed skirt out from under it. This is an issue if you are home alone or have back issues. We made Simply On Bed Skirts so you could easily avoid this by clipping the bed skirt around the mattress, instead of underneath it. Our bed skirts are easily removed and machine washable.

The Most Interesting Items Found Behind a Bed Skirt

A bed skirt can hide a lot of things and at Geela Lifestyle, we make sure your bed skirt not only hides what is under your bed, but also adds an element of style and luxury to your room. However, while most people typically put storage under their bed or need a modern bed skirt to hide the legs of the bed frame, some people have hidden a lot more than a box of clothes under their bed. Below we have listed the craziest items found under someone’s bed.

  1. A Crocodile

In 2013, Guy Whittall was spending the night at the Humani Ranch in Zimbabwe. He slept soundly for eight hours without even realizing that he had an unexpected guest relaxing under his bed. The crocodile was discovered when his maid lifted the bed skirt to dust under the bed. She screamed and ran out of the house. “I’m pretty sure everyone in Humani will check under their bed now before going to sleep.” Guy said.

2. A Sink Hole

One day Cecile Hernandez awoke to the sound of a loud explosion. She originally thought the sound was caused by a gas leak exploding or a car accident outside. After looking around to see where the noise originated from, a neighbor told her that the loud noise came from inside of her house. She looked everywhere and couldn’t find any damage. It wasn’t until she looked under the bed that she discovered, a three ft wide by forty ft deep sinkhole beneath her bed!

3. One Million Dollars in Cash

In October 2013, Landlord Jamie Smith was cleaning up after one of his former tenants. His maid had called off that day and he wanted the place spotless for his next renter. He lifted the bed skirt to make sure everything had been removed from the unit and there were multiple boxes under the bed. Jamie looked in the boxes and there was cash in each one totaling almost a million dollars. He called the tenant to try and get the boxes of cash back to him, but he never answered.

4. The World’s Most Valuable Violin

The Vieuxtemps Guarneri is the Rolls Royce of violins. This 274-year-old violin is also the most valuable in the world, recently selling for an estimated $16 million. Yehudi Menuhin was unaware of its value and stored it under her bed for five decades. It wasn’t until her granddaughter stumbled across it and recognized its value that it sold and made available for future generations to enjoy.

5. A 170 Million Dollar Painting

A painting described as a lost Caravaggio masterpiece was found under the bed in the attic of a house in the French city of Toulouse. The family was going through their grandfather’s items and had noticed a “nice painting.” They called an appraiser to come over and look at it. Well, that nice painting was worth 170 million and purchased by a museum.

Conclusion

What you can learn from these interesting tales is to always check underneath the bed, because you never know what you will find. Also, you need a modern bed skirt from Geela Lifestyle to hide anything and everything from prying eyes.

Why Choose a Neutral Color for Your Bed Skirt

When choosing a color for your bedding it is currently trending to use neutral colors. This is a great trend because neutral colors give you a blank canvas, a backdrop against which you can decorate the rest of your bedroom with color. A neutral color palette goes with everything, so if your bedding is neutral it gives you a nice base to then add color within the rest of the room or with colored pillows to personalize your space. Deciding which neutral color to go with is where many people get stuck.

At Geela Lifestyle our Simply On bed skirts come in white, beige, and a light grey. These colors are subtle and can complement any decor as long as it is in the right color palette. This versatility allows you to change your room’s decor over time without having to change the bed skirt as well.

How Do You Decorate With Neutral Colors?

When it comes to decorating with neutral colors, you can go a couple different directions. You can go for an all neutral color palette, where not only is your bedding a neutral tone, but your walls, furniture, and decor are also shades of neutral as well. The key to this approach is to vary the shades of neutrals within the same palette, so that you have a dynamic space that doesn’t look flat.

You can also do neutrals with added contrast. Think of it as a neutral base with a pop of color. Popping color into a room with pillows, curtains, or a painting is a fun way to add personality to a space. Also, these items that bring a pop of color can be easily swapped out to easily change the feel of a room without having to change the base of the decor.

Warm Neutrals Vs. Cool Neutrals

Not all neutrals go together in the same color palette. Even neutrals have a warm or cool undertone to them and you need to make sure you are choosing to decorate with one or the other. Neutrals with cool undertones skew more blue or green, which includes most greys. Meanwhile, warm neutrals have more red or yellow undertones which include browns and beiges. Warm colors have a stimulating effect, whereas cool colors tend to have a more calming and relaxing vibe.

Bedrooms are versatile because either neutral warm or neutral cool color palettes will work. When trying to decide this keep in mind, if you want a cozier feel to your space, go for a neutral with warm undertones. If you want to give your space a more open, airy vibe, go for a neutral with cool undertones.

Our Simply On Bed Skirts have revolutionized the industry. They are modern looking and can be easily installed and removed by one person in seconds without lifting or straining. They are available in white, beige, and grey and are the perfect finishing touch to a bedding set when decorating your bedroom.
